I am a small hobby breeder located in Manhattan, Illinois. I only breed Pacific Parrotlets and Bourke Parakeets. All of my babies are handfed and abundance weaned on pellets, a good guality cockatiel seed mix, fruits, veggies, pasta, lentils, rice, Romaine lettuce and other good foods.
Bourkes are probably one of the sweetest birds I have raised. They are not aggressive, do not bite, love to be with you, curiously watching everything you do. They make sweet chirping sounds and can learn to whistle, but do not talk. A lot of people think they are boring, but I find them quite the opposite. They make a great first bird for children or perfect for appartment dwellers because they are so quiet.
Parrotlets are quite fiesty and tend to think they are the boss. They must be supervised around other birds or pets. They can be aggressive toward other animals. They are very bossey for their size and it is very important to set boundaries right away, or they will become nippy to get their way. They are cute and funny and can learn to talk, but their voices are as small as their bodies. They aren't very noisey, make cute chattering sounds and since they are so small and hard to hear they are perfect for apartments. Will keep you entertained!
